On an Associative Trace for Sentence Memory 1

چکیده
An associationist model for sentence memory is described that assumes a configuration of independent associations underlies the memory trace for a simple sentence. Thxs is contrasted with a gestalt hypothesis that postulates a unitary trace for the simple sentence. The associationist model, but not the gestalt model, leads to two predictions that were confirmed: (a) incomplete recall of simple sentences should be a frequent occurrence, and (b) repetition of the same verb in a number of sentences should decrease recall of the object to the cue of subject plus verb.

Associative learning and memory duration of Trichogramma brassicae
Learning ability and memory duration are two inseparable factors which can increase theefficiency of a living organism during its lifetime. Trichgramma brassice Bezdenko (Hym.:Trichogrammatidae) is a biological control agent widely used against different pest species. This research was conducted to study the olfactory associative learning ability and memoryduration of T. brassicae under laborato...
متن کاملIt's either a cook or a baker: patients with conduction aphasia get the gist but lose the trace.
Patients with conduction aphasia have been characterized as having a short-term memory deficit that leads to relative difficulty on span and repetition tasks. It has also been observed that these same patients often get the gist of what is said to them, even if they are unable to repeat the information verbatim. To study this phenomenon experimentally, patients with conduction aphasia and left ...
متن کاملWord repetitions in sentence recognition.
When some items on a list are strengthened by extra study time or repetitions, recognition of other, unrelated, list items is not harmed (Ratcliff, Clark, & Shiffrin, 1990). Shiffrin, Ratcliff, and Clark (1990) accounted for this list-strength finding with a model assuming that different items are stored separately in memory, but that repetitions are accumulated together into a single stronger ...

Sentential context facilitates the incidental formation of word associations (e.g., Prior, A., & Bentin, S. (2003). In two experiments, unrelated word pairs were embedded in coherent or semantically anomalous sentenc...
متن کاملFace-name association 1 Running head: FACE-NAME ASSOCIATION Why are some people’s names easier to learn than others? The effects of face similarity on memory for face-name associations
Using synthetic faces that varied along four perceptual dimensions (Wilson, Loffler, & Wilkinson, 2002), we examined the effects of face similarity on memory for face-name associations. The nature of these stimuli allowed us to go beyond the categorical similarity manipulations used in previous verbal associative memory studies to trace out the parametric relation between similarity and various...
